Umuzi Acquires Henrietta Rose-Innes’ Forthcoming Novel, Green Lion

Umuzi is delighted to announce the acquisition of Southern African rights to Henrietta Rose-Innes’s next novel, Green Lion.

Rose-Innes is the recipient of the Caine Prize for African Writing and the African PEN Literary Award. She is the author of the novels Shark’s Egg, The Rock Alphabet and Nineveh, and the short story collection Homing.

Nineveh was shortlisted for the 2012 Sunday Times Fiction prize and an M-Net Award. Its recent publication in France by Editions Zoe has seen her hailed in Le Monde as “one of the most important voices of the new South African literature”.

Green Lion centres on a young man’s obsession with the last surviving black-maned Cape lion and will be published in 2015.

Fourie Botha, Publisher at Umuzi, says: “Publishing a book by Henrietta Rose-Innes is a privilege. We are great admirers of her work and are very excited about Green Lion.”

Isobel Dixon from London’s Blake Friedmann agency brokered the deal. French rights are already sold to Editions Zoe, also for publication in 2015.

Rose-Innes’s work has been translated into French, German, Arabic, Romanian and Dutch.
