Three Umuzi Titles Shortlisted for the 2013 University of Johannesburg Prizes

Umuzi is thrilled to announce that The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes has been shortlisted for the 2013 University of Johannesburg Prize. False River by Dominique Botha and The Spiral House by Claire Robertson have been shortlisted for the 2013 University of Johannesburg Debut Prize.

The shortlist was compiled by a panel of seven adjudicators from approximately 70 submitted works.

The UJ Prize is awarded to the writer of the best original creative South African work in English published in the previous calendar year. The UJ Debut Prize is awarded to the writer of the best original creative debut South African work published in the previous calendar year.

Other 2013 UJ Prize shortlisted titles include The Sculptors of Mapungubwe by Zakes Mda, Stepping Out by Steven Boykey Sidley and Sister Sister by Rachel Zadok.

Other 2013 UJ Debut Prize shortlisted titles include The Blacks of Cape Town by C. A. Davids and Jozi: A Novel by Perfect Hlongwane.

The winners will be announced on Friday, 6 June and the prizes will be presented at a gala ceremony later in the year.
