Brendon Bell-Roberts Explains How the 100 Good Ideas Book is Being Expanded into a Project

100 Good IdeasLast month, 100 Good Ideas: Celebrating 20 years of democracy was launched at Design Indaba. Edited by Brendon Bell-Roberts, the book forms part of the Cape Town Design Capital of the World showcase.

Bell-Roberts spoke to Catherine Bowen from Plascon Trends about how the book marks the beginning of the 100 Good Ideas Project which will include “a year-long social media campaign, online portal and an exhibition and events programme”.

“Once launched, the web portal will be a functioning publishing business that will continue to promote African design,” Bell-Roberts says, explaining that the project aims to enrich people’s lives through the promotion of African design.

So, Design Indaba 2014 was not only a platform for inspiring and thought-provoking talks from creative thought-leaders, it was also the event that publishers chose to use for the launch of the “100 Good Ideas Project – Celebrating 20 Years of Democracy,” which is a 448-page coffee table book.

The book explores the “opening of the floodgates of new trends, projects, icons, designs and role models” that emerged in the wake of South Africa’s democratization, all of which contributes to our “Rainbow Nation” brand identity which runs the gambit of Kwaito music, Bitterkomix, Craft Beer, Coffee Culture, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Madiba Magic (pre and posthumous).
